Flyladies and Flybabies
Introducing me, and some silliness
24th-Jan-2008 02:53 pm

Sorry it's taken me so long to introduce myself...

I was just doing my daily 30-minutes of administrivia that I otherwise tend to postpone for far too long-- this time slogging through a backlog of corporate email announcements -- and was rewarded by reading that we now have "Electronic access to Chaos" !    Eeek, I have enough real-world chaos, why would I need electronic access to any more!?

Seriously though it's a scientific journal (chaos.aip.org) so the reference librarian in me applauds even as the whimsical clutter-bug in me giggles hysterically.

(On my own lj page I explained what CHAOS really stands for...)

On to the profile...

What should we call you?  Mary, MaryHS, Emme, Mary in Central CT
Who lives in your home? (This might include ages of children or number and kinds of pets.) me, DH, DD 1yo, and a mixed bag of houseplants, brewing projects, and dust bunnies.  Oh, and 3 beehives in my MIL's backyard.
What kind of home are you keeping (house, apartment, dorm...)?  House
What's your current career status?   Working FT.  DH is working PT while in grad school.  (and unfortunately he seems to think that PHD really stands for Piled Higher & Deeper)
How long have you been using the FlyLady system? Off-n-on for about 2 years
What is the most important thing FlyLady has taught you? Pick a place to start and just DO it ... and keep doing it every day.
What things have been big stumbling blocks for you?  Staying polite with my family, especially my techie DH (he has a totally different set of criteria for what needs to be saved than I do!).  A tendency to sit down and read when I'm feeling down in the dumps.  A BIG bad habit of starting a new project before finishing the old one.
What would be your advice to someone just finding FlyLady? She may seem a bit over-enthusiastic at times, but oh how you grow to love that enthusiasm when you're having trouble starting a daunting project.
Do you have a favorite cleaning tool or tip to share?  Old socks only make good cleaning rags if they've been cut up so they don't end up back in sock drawers.  Toilet paper works perfectly fine to clean the rim of the toilet...why didn't I think of that years ago!?
Where are you with FlyLady right now? Dropping in randomly depending on how life allows.  I try to keep up with the daily missions but sometimes it takes me 2 weeks to do one.  ;)  But the sink's clean 3/4 of the nights now.
Is there any particular part of the program you're working on now? Decluttering & attitude.
Hobbies? Interests? We're in a medieval history club, which makes our "stuff" even denser than it might otherwise be, because it means having a set of gear to live in pseudo-14th century style.   (But oh how I love wearing the long dresses!) And we're both booklovers so that leads to some tough decisions.... I refuse to purge my cookbooks except along the lines of how others purge their closets--because DH&I both use them regularly.  All 8 feet of shelving of them.  (DH used to be a professional chef; I travel vicariously by cooking other cultures' cuisines.)
Links to share?
Anything Else??
I'm an incorrigible punster...do not incorridge.

Are you by any chance a fellow SCAdian?

Indeed I am! Lady Emme Attewater at your service. (Briefly Aiofe O'Kirwan before the heralds got a hold of me.) Peek at my galingale profile, there's more there.

Oh, and if anyone's curious about what we're talking about, drop one or both of us a note off list... or just go peek at the organization's website www.sca.org or a member's website http://www.scademo.com/

I am most pleased to greet you my lady. Lady AElfwenna of Shrewsbury at yours.

I am originally of Glean Abhann, but have lived in northern Ansteorra for a year now, and have just recently re-connected with the Society after my move. I've been a member since 1989.
