I am not at all affiliated with the this app, but I really love it and want to spread the word about it because it's helping me a lot. I installed HomeRoutines about a week ago and I'm already FLYing better than I ever have before. There's something so rewarding about being able to give myself a little gold star for every task I complete each day. I tried using a couple other (free) task-management apps, and they were OK, but this one has some nice functions that work best for the way I use it.
The thing I like best about HomeRoutines is that it's very easy for me to rearrange my zones & then stay accountable, and I think that's why I was having such a hard time FLYing in the past. FlyLady's zones just didn't make sense for the way my house is laid out, so her emails and reminders didn't do me much good. When I tried to create my own zones, I was pretty much on my own as far as being accountable for their care each month. I tried to create a physical control journal, but I never liked it and kept starting over, and it ultimately just became part of the clutter. I tried creating different Zones and Daily Focus appointments in my Google Calendar, and that was OK, but it was ultimately just a few long lists of everything that had to be done for each routine and each zone. I like being able to check things off lists. Plus it didn't really seem to keep me any more focused on my housework than before.
I've put HomeRoutines in my dock so it's always readily available. Now, all I have to do is just whip out my phone and tap "Focus Zone" or "Evening Routine" or "Weekly Chores" (I can't do a Home Blessing Hour, so I do a little bit of blessing each day fo the week) to see what I have to work on! Oh, and the app is smart enough to work with the calendar weeks in FlyLady's system, so that if we have a zone that starts halfway through a week, the app automatically accounts for that! NO MORE MANUALLY TRYING TO FIX MY G
I also like the fact that you can copy & paste an entire room (and its monthly zone work) for similar rooms with similar requirements (like son's room & daughter's room, for example), and there is "smart list pasting" so that if you copy a list of tasks (like from a webpage or email), you can paste them into the app and they automatically turn into a list of tasks instead of just being one large text block.
OK, that's a lot more than I thought I'd be able to say, but I hope a few of you might be able to make use of this app too - it's easily the best thing that's happened to my house in a long time :)
